Pretty bird
Radish
A Splendid parakeet is the newest addtion to our flock. Radish is such a sweet, bashful and patient little bird. We can't wait to find him a mate and move him into a larger aviary. For now he shares space with our Gouldian finches. Our little bachelors Milagro and Corozon (dark purple chest) are no longer alone. And have been paired off with Sirena (yellow ) who loves to bathe and be in the water every chance she gets. And orange head/lilac chest Lucy. She seems to be the favorite with the boys. Except for the occasional singing they are very quiet and mellow. They are so endearing and bring such light to our lives.
I feel sad at times that these beautiful creatures are not completely free to soar. But these birds were bred in captivity. They are spieces that have been part of the bird trade for generations and not endangered. They are not the kind of birds that do tricks, talk or are needy for human companionship. They could not survive on thier own with the many hawks in our canyons and urban sprawl. I get my birds from breeders that have outdoor aviaries. I think those birds tend to be more hardy. They are aclimated to the outdoors and being in San Diego it is easy to house them in the sunshine. I try to provide them as natural enclosure as posible and with lots of organic veggies and quality food. I educate myself on thier needs and requirements. I strive to keep them happy and well cared for. Just like my guests.
